Review: This week on ROH TV January 23rd

This weeks ROH TV was taped right down the road from me in Nashville, TN. It was set to feature the main event match up of Alberto El Patron (Alberto Del Rio) vs "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels. This weeks ROH TV I thought was very good.

Opening Match

The Kingdom (Bennett and Taven) vs The Briscos

If you don't follow ROH, then know a little about the history between these two. Bennett stole Jay Briscos title and fancied it up with a bunch of pink fur and is now in the hands of Maria. There is a hatred between these two that has been brewing. The match doesn't start as both teams just pound on each other, throw chairs, and some Redneck Kung Fu from Mark Brisco. They finally get everyone settled and the match begins after about 5 mins of a all out brawl. Some great back and forth offense until Mark is on the outside and Jay is in ring with Taven. Maria comes in the ring with a chair and is about to hit Jay with it. From the back, out comes ODB!!! Yes ODB is back in ROH! She takes the chair from a scared Maria and knocks out Taven. Maria and Bennett go to the outside as ODB gives Jay some "juice" to come alive. In the interview ODB claims she is One Dirty Brisco!

Great match, told a great story. Maybe WWE needs to take notice that it don't have to be a 15 min talk fest to tell a story. 4 stars. Only reason it was 4 is cause the match wasn't long enough. Hopefully down the road we will finally see Jay Brisco vs Bennett. Title vs Title.

Top Prospect Match

Beer City Bruiser vs. Mikey Webb

Beer City Bruiser is a 300-plus fat guy that drinks beer. Not impressive to me. Mikey Webb might way 200 with boots on and soaking wet. This was basically a squash match that lasted about 10 mins. Not a very good match up. Beer City Bruiser gets the win with his move The Hangover, a pile driver into the legs.

2 stars

Main Event of the night

Alberto El Patron vs. Christoper Daniels

The crowd goes wild for Alberto, who is making is in ring debut for Ring of Honor. We also get a Fallen Angel chant, followed by a this is awesome chant. Alberto and Daniels shake hands for the code of honor. And the match is under way. Great match up here with back and forth offense from both. Alberto does some signature moves and then we see Jay Lethal coming down ringside to be on commentary. Lethal and El Patron had words last week on TV, possibly setting up a match between the two at 13th Anniversary on March 1st. Lethal talks about how Alberto showed him no respect and was trying to leap frog everyone to get his match up with the #1 guy in ROH. He said he should face Cheeseburger, yes that is a wrestler. Alberto ends up getting the win with the Arm Bar. Daniels tapped out after going for the Best Moonsault in the World. Lethal enters the ring and starts poking El Patron. This makes Alberto slap Lethal and out comes Truth Martini and the Hired Gun Jay Diesel. They start the beat down of El Patron, out comes the Addiction, Daniels and Kazarian to save Alberto.

4 1/2 stars. Great match up and continued the story of Lethal vs El Patron.

Alberto looked great in the ring, WWE really lost a great wrestler and talent by not using him right.  Great show overall. Some storylines continued this week, great wrestling, plus a squash match. Not a bad show overall. Great thing about it was I didn't have to sit through 15-20 mins of in ring promo to bore me. WWE can learn from this show. But thats another topic for another time.
